flea @ Timbre! 2:48 PM

In conjunction with the Singapore River Festival, there's a week-long flea market held at Timbre to complement all the other happening events around the entire area!

Miche, my sister and I will be taking a stall only for tomorrow because we shared the week's worth of slots with a helluva other girls from SMU. There will probably be quite a lot of vintage/eclectic/cool stuff to be found there since it's one of those flea markets with "personality", haha. Come down and support us if you guys are free! We don't know our stall number because they apparently don't assign numbers, but just give any of us a call when you're there.

LOVE YOU ALL. :) See you at the flea tomorrow!

communicasia 2009 3:39 PM

Much apologies for the lack of updates! I've been insanely busy the last few weeks, full of working and dancing my feet off.

CommunicAsia 2009 was held last week at the Expo and I was working from Tuesday to Friday for Blue Coat Systems! In case you haven't heard of them (like me prior to this job), they deal with internet security and acceleration on a corporate level, so their clients are mainly the big firms of the Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch level (in the past). I can't remember their current clients for the life of me but these two names stuck in my head because it immediately inspired an OH NO in response when I was talking to some of the staff. I'm sure you can guess why, huh.

The uniform was uber cute! A short little police girl outfit - really short, actually, that we had to wear boyshorts around underneath for all four days in case we flashed the public our asses.

My police patrol partner for the event was Crystal!

And next to us were the Yahoo girls who kept us endlessly entertained...Sarah and Beatrice. They were giving free slushees out for all 4 days so the crowd traffic was pretty good (you know how it is when there are freebies in Singapore!) - we obviously benefitted from the crowd flow too. :P

I also met Amy walking around distributing flyers in her sexy cheongsam - it's quite funny because we'd only met each other on Monday while working for the Sound Series Project at The Arena. She's really young, only 18 but I couldn't tell because she carries herself so well and in such a mature fashion - which I found extremely surprising but good too because it meant we hit it off really fast and well right from the start. :)

All Crystal and I had to do was walk around distributing flyers and carrying the signs to attract people over to the Blue Coat booth. It meant that we had a lot of opportunities to run around and check out the entire trade show, and also of course, being the busybodies we were, we just had to go look-see to find out who was working for the event and at which booth too!

The LG booth was the nicest of the lot. Many girls at their booths, but I don't know most of them save for like one or two, and their booth was always so crowded that I didn't want to go in and interrupt the girls just to take photos, in case they ended up getting scolded. LG imported their dancers straight from South Korea too to put up shows throughout the day.

I was originally supposed to work for LG for CommunicAsia 2009, but ah well long and unpleasant story that had a good ending I guess since Blue Coat paid better. The welfare was also super good - all the staff were damn nice and let us relax and take breaks from time to time when our feet were tired, and they even fed us donuts and eggtarts and whatnot.

On the flipside of the whole welfare issue, there were the poor, slave-driven Samsung girls...who also were unfortunate enough to have reflective floors in the booth that nobody informed them out, so they had to discover the perils of the job on the first day when perverts were taking upskirt shots of them on the reflective floor. Disgusting behavior, no? On the bright side, they had very pretty uniforms. :)

There were NUMEROUS familiar faces at Samsung...but I only managed to catch Stella, Sam, Shn and Amelia for photos. I was so glad to see Sam there! We had a super fun but bitchy lunch together on Friday.

Anyhow, enough blogging about CommunicAsia 2009 for now - I'm just glad the 4 days of standing in killer heels are over, though I must say I was quite sad saying goodbye to the Blue Coat people on the last day. They're really a nice bunch, one of the best client companies I've worked for to date.

Yay and thanks to everyone who kept me alive in the 4 days of work! :)

how to train your little pets 9:55 AM

Moses sent me a link to this video and omg, it's sooooooo cute!

The hamster is like a mini-dog running through obstacles! It's half-inspired me to go start training poor Walnut now that her sister's gone and she probably needs something else to occupy her mind and her time...so I went to watch some of the training how-to videos that this girl posted up. I don't know if I can muster up enough patience to get around to doing it successfully though. :P

I don't know who this girl is but she exemplifies the behaviorist paradigm that we always learn about in psychology - on conditioning and everything, and it's quite funny/cute watching her demonstrate this on what seems like the most unlikeliest pets to train. She's got videos up of her training her hamsters, her guinea pigs, and most amazingly...

...even her GOLDFISH!

I never knew fishes even had that much brains to be trainable, but I guess in the animal kingdom, food makes the world go round (the same way that money makes the world go around for us) so...

If any of you out there always wanted a dog/dolphin/seal/etc to train and do up cool party tricks but due to whatever reasons are unable to keep one (ahem, obvious reasons for the dolphin and seal I guess), no fear! Adopt a hamster today and go for it! :P

death of a(nother) hamster 11:37 AM

Apparently while I was out at dinner last night, another hamster left us. This time it's poor, skinny Pnut who very unfortunately and tragically got into an accident with the hamster wheel, broke her back, and was in so much pain and the vet couldn't do anything about it and so my sister chose to put her to sleep.

I only found out about it when my sister told me this morning so I won't go into the details...but, you can read her account of it.

It's really sad because she left her sister behind - they were from the same litter and we picked the two of them out of the rest because they got along so well and because they were the best in temperament. I was the one who chose Pnut actually, partly because she was the runt of the litter and was always being bullied. :( For the longest time we couldn't tell the two apart, and they were always together anyhow so it didn't really matter as it was sort of like a bundled deal sort of thing. Only when they matured fully then were we able to distinguish them by their markings, and most importantly by size - Walnut was the fat, blubbery one while Pnut was skinnier and more active.

Yes well, that's Pnut on the left and Walnut on the right.

:( Goodbye Pnut.

new tiger uniform 11:57 PM

Been a long while since I last posted work pictures, hmm? Then again, it's been a long time since I've worked for anyone as well. Last week was my first time doing a Tiger event in ages! And...they've changed the uniform - check out the pretty demure Tiger dress that we get to wear now!

Quite lady-like and nice, isn't it? :)

Was working for the soccer sixes event held at the Singapore Cricket Club and there really wasn't very much to do except for standing around, applauding the speakers and just vaguely looking attentive and pretty and like I'm not bored stiff by the lack of anything to do.

Okay, will post more soon (hopefully about more substantial matters)!

I guess it was more for me to see than for anyone else since the person submitted it under my email - so they sent me an email asking me to review my submission and confirm it. Been meaning to post this up for awhile but it keeps slipping my mind, so!

Anyway, really awesome entry with equally awesome English. I'm a poster! That's a new one. And a trainrack. And I will ALWAY be a slut and etc etc whatnot.

Seriously, if you wanna slam people at least go learn some English first. That's the least you can do. I'd also suggest go growing a brain and getting a life but I guess those are things that you either have from the start or you don't, and I guess I can't discriminate against those who (very unfortunately) weren't lucky enough to be born with either, so oh well!

Oh yes, and my mom takes offence at the last bit about my name. :P Her overall response was funny though, I showed it to her and she went "EH WHAT ABOUT YOUR NAME?!" followed by "oh not bad huh my daughter is famous."

Snort.

some kinda insane 2:21 AM

Sharon dropped in last week for a short visit and I must say that Union Square suddenly seemed a lot more attractive then with her around! I swear everytime she comes back she gets better and hotter. I wish I functioned like that, too. :P But now that she's gone, tonight was rather dull - to the point that Sarah, Kelly and I decided to have a go at learning how to lead towards the end of the night to entertain ourselves!

I've decided that Kelly would probably make a fantastic female lead because her frame is awesome. She's also super fun and easy to lead around though, I have to say.

That all aside, the days are just passing one after another, after another...with nothing very much in between. For someone with absolutely nothing to do, time certainly seems to be escaping at an extremely rapid pace.

Oh, check out this cool photo that I took awhile back (ahem, stole Gavin's camera to fool around with in Amici restaurant, to be exact) - NICE RIGHT?

Okay, okay, I'll admit it now - it only looks this nice because he went to photoshop it nicely for me. Someone must've been feeling really kind and/or bored, huh.

Then again, I really ought to speak for myself too. I actually think having too much free time on my hands makes me not just an idle person but also one that is way too nosy and meddling, because I suddenly have all this time and energy to think/overthink, analyze/overanalyze, discuss/overdiscuss things that I honestly would love to figure out and resolve. Somehow, though, it seems like the more I think and the more I try to talk it over and out, the worse I'm making it all be and so it's not like I'm completely blameless either. Anyhow, I have decided as of tonight to just extract myself from the picture altogether - for the good of all (I think). After all, it's one of those scenarios where maybe less effort = better results so I guess my aim for the near future is to: i) be nicer and more tolerant, ii) learn to keep my mouth shut when appropriate, iii) just let things be and not feel compelled to meddle so much.

Boo. I can't wait to get out of Singapore already. I need a break from my break!

swine flu humor 5:47 PM

I know that everyone is worried about the swine flu now, but fortunately, Singapore still seems pretty safe so far, standing at orange alert now and expecting to drop to yellow over the weekend. Well, to lighten the situation, let me share with you guys some stuff my friends have emailed me over the last few days.

How the swine flu pandemic started...ugh!

And oh, the strength of friendship. ;)

Enjoy, and stay healthy everyone!

au revoir, SMU 1:00 PM

I may be properly done with school now, but it still feels like...I'm on summer break instead, actually. It rocks being able to sleep/wake up whenever I feel like it, fix appointments whenever I want to, not having assignments/projects/papers to worry about and all. My days have boiled down into almost a semi-routine for now, which is comforting in its own way but I can foresee it getting boring sooner or later. On a whole, life can come across as rather meaningless and directionless as it is I suppose, but I'm not complaining. Well, not yet anyway.

Anyhow, results for all the modules this semester are out, and I must say I have done exceedingly well. Surprisingly so! Maybe it's just my subconscious trying to end school with a bang - and oh did it succeed or what?

Out of a sheer lack of anything else to do, I'll post some picture of my last week of school (classes, actually) in SMU. After all, all memories deserve their places in our lives and in our minds regardless of whether they're bad or good.

My last Developmental Psychology class - with my group members and Hwa-Jin! Qinlei and Liz were awesome to work with though we're all so last minute it borders on being ridiculous - but hey, looking at how we did on the overall, I'm guessing we must have submitted quite a kickass project! :P

Then there's my Strategy group - Crystal, Mark and Shan were also super to work with. Given that the module was so heavy, we saw so much of each other towards the end of the term to work on Globus or the project or random case assignments it was quite terrible and really surprising that we haven't grown sick of each other yet! I swear we were meeting at least thrice a week at one point in time just to work on Strat. And there's Adel, one of the most engaging and interesting professors I've encountered in SMU though he gives out insane workloads - while he's indeed extremely anal when it comes to certain things (like ahem, punctuality) and all, I guess he did manage to beat some good sense and discipline into us.

And Jolene! Who was in my class for 3 out of the 4 modules I was taking in the last term.

Damn, we both forgot to get a picture with our Social Cognition prof - Jennifer Tong. I really like her because she's so nice and also because I've got fond memories of Social Psychology classes under her from eons ago! I must admit though that Social Cog was extremely confusing for most parts but anyway it turned out to be the module I did the best in. Funny how things turn out sometimes.

Anyway, then there's French class! Our last lesson was all just presentations galore - my group decided to cook some French food for the class and I must say oh boy they loved it. Yes well, that was no thanks to me. In fact I swear the only reason why it was so well-received is because I assured them I had no part in the cooking, haha. It's the most relaxed and fun presentation ever, totally stress-free and just full of hilarity and crack-ups. Thanks loads to Serene for organizing most of it and doing all the cooking and transportation and whatnot (and also to Eric for being so supportive).

Here we are, Jevin, Benjamin, me and Serene. We scored full marks for the presentation ok! :P

And...here we are again with Francois and our presentation props!

All the final year students in the class with Prof - yes, there are a hell lot of us.

Hello Aaron Goh! He decided to take both Spanish and French in the same term and got confused so he started rolling his r's and pronouncing his j's as h's in French, much to the amusement of everyone.

That's all for now, we're really done with school, aren't we?

College, out.
