Internship news?

The week's passed by pretty fast, didn't it? Anyhow, update on my life at BT so far:

Monday: Just some initiation and training to use the horrendously complicated Coyote system that SPH uses to write and edit stories in. It was like computer lessons all over again! I also discovered that both of the other two interns at Business Times are from RJ - Jo and Pepper - so I have company at work. I fell asleep a couple of times in that freezing room watching the very nice lady patiently coach us with the system, so felt pretty bad about dozing off, but it WAS very cold and boring.

Tuesday: I got to write my first article! I literally stoned and slacked off from 10am-6pm though, just writing emails, reading newspapers, magazines, sleeping, talking to random people and having extraordinarily long breaks because I had NOTHING to do while at least the other two had various tasks to keep them busy. Just as I thought I could leave at 6pm+, editor suddenly surprised me with a SembCorp press release to write up on! I got posted to the general desk, while Jo is at Foreign Desk and Pepper at Lifestyle (how lucky!) Besides that, everyone at BT is really friendly and warm to us newbie interns, we felt so welcomed. :)

Wednesday: Went to office to find out that I got my first byline printed! So I was really quite excited, because afterall, the SembCorp thing, though dreary, was written on my first day at the desk and it actually got printed! Anyhow, got to do more stuff today - Eddie (my editor) is really nice though, as well as Liza and Carolyn, two other NTU interns sitting in the adjoining cubicles. At least I know I'll always have company with them around, instead of having to walk across half the room to find Jo to talk to.

Today: Mild case of food poisoning PLUS the flu bug, so had to stay home from office. They must think I'm so slack, skiving off on the third day of work, but I had no choice! Rather sad, because there was a reporting seminar today that would've been really useful for me, but I really was in too bad a shape to drag myself out of house. :|

Ah well, in all, no complaints except that the working hours really are kind of strange, what with us heading to the office only at 11amish and leaving just barely before 9pm. The workload is erratic too, but then again, I already knew that even before I set foot into SPH, so....no comments.
